For over four decades, Michael has studied and refined the science behind non-verbal behavioural patterns in people. He began his career as a school teacher and studied how gestures, body language, eye contact and voice patterns were used by other teachers.
As a result, he identified and isolated 21 distinctive non-verbal behavioural patterns. He named them the Pentimento Patterns.

“My wife and I were in Italy for a speaking engagement. While there, we toured one of the many excellent art museums. While enjoying the various masterpieces, a curator explained to us the significance of the cracked paintings.
Essentially, when the painting was new, it was complete and flawless. However, over time the paint begins to crack, revealing what is truly underneath. The curator explained that the process of revealing an element of a painting that has always been there, yet until now has been unseen is pentimento.
We borrowed from the world of art this beautiful word, because when it comes to communication, non-verbal patterns are always present, yet are completely invisible to the untrained eye. Thus we call these Pentimento Patterns.”
